5/8/06

Today we used more weather terms except now we say what we are wearing during a season.

?Como se viste junio? What do you dress with in June?

Se viste con una playera, las sandalias, los pantalones cortos, los lentes del sol, un gorra, y un traje de bano.

I dress with a shirt, sandles, shorts, sunglasses, a cap, and a bathing suit.

Today we learned words of weather. It is definately a challenge to memorize, but not impossible. Llueve is 'It rains' Nieva is ' It snows', whereas la llueva is 'the rain,' and la nieve is 'the snow.' I just have to remember that in some cases, Spanish and English tend to be opposite of each other when it comes to the length of phrases and scentences.

5/2/06

Today we learned parts of the body in Spanish. The words I have most trouble with are el cabello (hair), el hombre (shoulder), la pierza (leg), el brazo (arm), la oreja (ear), la boca (mouth), and el dedo (finger). It is just a matter of continued study.

We also learned the proper way to speak when giving a demand. Though you use "tu," you use third person/ singular (El, ella) verbs. "Toca tu oreja." Touch your ear.

5/1/06

Today I learned the phrase, "Muy ocupido," or 'very busy.' I can remember it bcause it looks and sounds like 'Very occupied.'

Unfortunately, I believe I may have done poorly on a quiz that I thought I undertood. The grammer was correct, but I may have skrewed up on the spelling. Let's hope for the best.

4/27/06

Today we learned " to dress one's self," and " I call myself. Vestirse and llamarse have different meanings but follow the same conjegation guide lines:

  1. Me visto        4. Nos vestimos
  2. Te vistes        5. Os vestis
  3. Se viste         6. Se visten

I can remmeber that the ending 'se' stands for something pertaining to one's self because 'se' are the first letters of self.

4/26/06

Today I made a stupid error. I had forgotten what a proper noun was, but the humiliation that followed my folly has become a study tool I will not soon forget. "i Miren y Areceli son moreno!" not, "Ellos son moreno."

The colors are also difficult, but if I can just remember that consanant endings are neutral, then I should be ok.

4/25/06

Today we continued our learning of clothing words in Spanish. This is one of the hardest things I've ever had to memorize. The words are so bizzare! The hardest ones are:

  • Los corbata (tie) ................... A TIE corals around a man's neck.
  • Los calcetines (socks) .......... The feet are calest if SOCKS are not worn.
  • Los zapatos (shoes) ............. Zapatos should be a SHOE brand.
  • El abrigo (big coat) .............. "Thats a brig coat."
  • El cinturone (belt) ................ A BELT goes around the center of a centurion.
  • La chaqueta (jacket) ............ "I'll wear the cha...QUETA!!" "Bless you."
  • La camiseta (undershirt/T-shirt)... The camo undershirt isn't as protective as the...
  • La camisa (shirt) .... regular army camo shirt.

AH!!!

4/20/06

Today in Spanish, we wrote a paragraph on our own views of illegal immigration. I could have gone on for hours, but I stopped with one paragraph.

Today in Spanish we learned nueve adjectives. They are confusing do to the grammatical order in which they are placed. The nouns are placed before the adjectives, and when the noun is plural, an 's' is not only added to the noun, but also the adjective, and artical too.

4/17/06

Today we learned how to properly use querer. This is important because the format is different from  gustar.

  • Yo quiero comer.
  • Comer gusta me a mi.

In both gustar and querer, the conjugated verb is said first while the infinitive is said last. That is were the similarities end. Gustar is a very twisted format that seems to make no sense when directly translated, were as quiero is more like ingles.

4/10/06

Today, I learned several new words in spanish which would allow me to order a sandwich in  a foreign deli. Me gusta pollo sandwich con creme de la cacahuate! Mmm.... Mi sandwich es bueno con lechuga y tomate! La mayonesia es gorduda! Sin embargo, es buena!

4/6/06

Today we worked on computers. We learned a new verb, querer, which means 'to want.'

  • Quiero
  • quieres
  • quiere
  • queremos
  • quereis
  •  quieren       are not to difficult to remember, but the spelling is tricky. I just have to remember "the boot."

Me gusta using new verbs. "Yo quiero un latina esposa," dice Miren.

4/5/06

AHHH! Las cerezas (cherries), Las fresas(strawberries), la lechuga (lettuce), and last but certainly not least, la naranja (orange) are my most UNFAVORITE Spanish words! They are either spelled really strange or pronounced very difficultly.  To memorize them, I will call every fruit, vegetable, and fruit juice I consume (Los frutas, los vegetales, y jugo yo como) by their proper Spanish names. Hasta manana muchachos.

4/4/06

Today I learned different Spanish words for foods. Most are easy. Chicken is el pollo, milk is la leche, but I have had a difficult time memorizing the meals. El desayuno is easy because of the word 'uno' meaning #1. El almuerzo is difficult because there doesn't seem to be a reference to lunch. La cena is "ify" because cena doesn't sound much like supper, but it does remind me of a fancy meal.

4/4/06

Today I learned a new word. Practicar, which means to practice. "Yo practico mi espanol." I practice my spanish. "Me gusta practicar mi espanol," dice Miren.

3/31/06

Today I did relatively well on my Spanish oral test. Unfortunatley, I missed a basic word on my third major test... TWICE! 'Inglesia' is 'English.' So when I say, "Victor va a inglesia con el familia," then I am saying, "Victor goes to England with his family." I want to say the same sentence, but rather input the word 'iglesia,' which means 'church.'

3/30/06

Today I took the third major test of the semester. It was pretty easy since I studied. I hope I did bien. i Yo estoy nerviosa! The grade I get tomarrow is determined by my proper pronounciation (20 points), believability (10 points), and some other stuff. I tend to freeze up!

3/29/06

Today I have learned several new words and phrases. They consist of: 'los coche' car, 'en los autobus' ride the bus, and 'conmigo y contigo' which means with you and with me.

Knowing these make Spanish slightly more interesting. Its alot better then just repeating the same words over, and over.

3/28/06

Today, I learned, or was reminded that 'ir de compras' is irregular. 'compras' stays the same in every sentence. But of course 'ir' is subject to change due to the pronombres. I have a big Spanish test tommarow bright and early. I hope I sleep well tonight.

3/27/06

Today I have learned that I should put the prepasition 'A' before sentences that consist of 'what pleasures' or 'gusta'. I'll remember this because of its random placement and seemingly lack of importance.

Also today, I learned that  'bendecir' means 'to bless.' This is an ir verb called a subjuction. I don't completely understand why, but as long as I understand how to use it I'm ok. Very positive.

3/15/06

Today I messed up on my mid-term exam due to a careless mistake. One that apparantly many other aluminos made. I wrote "cuarto" instead of "media." I made a "cien menos dos(ja ja)." "Cuarto" is just another way of saying, "quarter past or quarter till"
